  • Invalid check digit. The last digit should be 7, not 1.

Encoding happens entirely in your browser. This tool encodes numbers you already own — it does not issue or register GS1 company prefixes.

Printing notes

  • Structure: extension digit + GS1 company prefix + serial reference + modulo-10 check digit.

What is SSCC?

The Serial Shipping Container Code is the 18-digit GS1 key that identifies one individual logistics unit — a specific pallet or carton, not a product type. It is usually carried in a GS1-128 symbol under Application Identifier (00).

Because each SSCC is unique and never reused within the recommended period, it is the hook that links a physical pallet to a despatch advice message.

Frequently asked questions

Is this SSCC generator free to use?

Yes. The SSCC generator is free, has no signup and adds no watermark. The symbol is encoded in your browser, so the data you type is never uploaded to a server.

What file format should I download for printing SSCC?

Download SVG for anything that will be printed. SVG is vector, so bar widths and the quiet zone stay exact at any size. PNG is fine for screens and slide decks, but never scale a PNG barcode up — enlarging it blurs the bar edges and scanners start failing.

Can two pallets share an SSCC?

No. An SSCC identifies one logistics unit. GS1 recommends not reusing a number for at least one year, and longer in regulated sectors.

How is an SSCC built?

An extension digit, your GS1 company prefix, a serial reference you allocate, and a modulo-10 check digit — 18 digits in total. This tool calculates and verifies the check digit.
