What is Code 93?

Code 93 was designed as a denser, more secure successor to Code 39. It encodes the same character set in about 25% less space and adds two mandatory check characters, which makes misreads far less likely.

Adoption stayed narrow because Code 128 arrived with similar density and broader support, so Code 93 is mostly found in Canada Post and some logistics systems.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Code 93 generator free to use?

Yes. The Code 93 generator is free, has no signup and adds no watermark. The symbol is encoded in your browser, so the data you type is never uploaded to a server.

What file format should I download for printing Code 93?

Download SVG for anything that will be printed. SVG is vector, so bar widths and the quiet zone stay exact at any size. PNG is fine for screens and slide decks, but never scale a PNG barcode up — enlarging it blurs the bar edges and scanners start failing.

Should I choose Code 93 or Code 128?

Choose Code 128 unless a partner or system specifically requires Code 93. Code 128 is denser for numeric data and far more widely supported.
